Here's a simple thing to try that could help. After weeks of searching and trying various methods I read somewhere that some doctors think a potassium deficiency could be related to post nasal drip. I started eating one banana or kiwi per day plus took one tablespoon of apple cider vinegar per day. After a few days I felt much better. I wasn't completely cured (probably because I also have a deviated septum) but I felt much better and had much less drip and sore throat problems.
For whatever reason your problems are caused by excessive sticky mucus. One gram of vitamin b5 daily should be a big help. Also take n-acetylcysteine (NAC) capsules, as directed. Drink lots of water. Whenever you can afford it go to a lung doctor for a prescription for Mucomyst, 10 per cent to be used in a nebulizer. And buy a cheap nebulizer.
Mucomyst is a variant of NAC so it is a supplement, but the liquid cannot be bought over the counter. How no idea why. In any case my serious bronchitis, post-nasal drip and sinus headaches (all caused by excessive mucus) are now a memory
Hello and hope you are doing well.
Repeated episodes of dry cough, runny nose and throat irritation could most probably be due to allergens. These are substances like pollen, dust, animal dander, certain foods, insect venoms and certain medications. Exposure to allergens causes a runny nose with a resultant post nasal drip where secretions from the nose go backward into the throat and irritate causing cough. Cough is a protective mechanism by the body as it helps to prevent infections. You will need to consult your primary care physician for proper clinical assessment. In the meantime for relief from your symptoms you could do warm salt gargles and take OTC antihistamines.
Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
