They are wanting to paralyze him.... what does that mean?

My daddy has double pneumonia. They say that his lungs has Staff in them. They are wanting to paralyze him.... they say that is the last resort. What does that mean?

They are probably wanting to put him on some type of "assisted ventilation"
normally they have to paralyze the patient otherwise the patient will not calm down enough to breath easy.  They can also clean out the lungs like this as well. Good luck, may GOD bless

What they mean by paralyze...they want to put him in a drug induced coma so they can intubate him (breathing tube)and that will do his breathing for him. This will allow his lungs to heal faster and they will be able to suction out excess phlegm and gunk from his lungs without him feeling or knowing it.  Its not a pretty sight...down right scary...BUT...it will help him get better quicker...if they decide to do it.  If they do this...be sure to continue talking to him and holding his hand and stuff. It isn't proven that they can or cannot hear you...but in the chance he can...it will be worth your efforts to be supportive and not frightened.
I wish Dad the best of luck...and I wish you kindness and strength.
