Read the majority of your responses..

I have read the majority of your responses, to same problem I have, and also have not had a doctor that has been able to tell me what the issue is. Mine comes on sudden and I have not been able to connect it with any particular thing I am doing at the time of the attack, and the ones that are really bad, I end up losing my breath, going into some god awful seizure, where I am shaking and cannot control it, sometimes pee myself, and I can fall to the ground, if I do not steady myself beforehand. I have been doing so much research to try and find answers, and the only thing I can come up with, that makes any sense at all, is an adult verson of the child's Whooping Cough. |The medical journals all have this type of cough escalating to seizures and other complications if an infection is present. The journals also say that this is primarily an infant or young child's affliction, although, I cannot help thinking that there could be a new mutation of this Whooping cough, that can now affect adults.....something to think about Medical researchers...we need to probe into this further, as it is apparent that it is more common that I expected, and can result in life threatning situations. Every time I go into one of these coughing fits, I cannot help but be terrified, that this is the last one, and I am a gonner, or that I might hit my head on the way down and bleed to death....some may think this dramatic, although, I know the ones out there that have this experience, feel pretty much the same way.......Any answers anyone has, would be truly appreciated.

Sandy.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello and hope you are doing well.

Cough, chest tightness and breathlessness the three symptoms are the triad of symptoms for Asthma. It is a disease affecting the lungs causing narrowing of the airways, usually due to an allergic reaction to triggering factors. Therapy is with bronchodilators which cause the airways to dilate. Your symptoms could also be due to COPD or Bronchiectasis. The other causes could be due to Bronchitis or Cystic fibrosis. You will need to consult your doctor who may need to do a sputum culture and sensitivity to determine what antibiotic the organism is susceptible to.  He may even ask for repeat blood test and an X ray. Lung function tests could further help in evaluation. In the meantime take OTC acetaminophen, try to take warm oral fluids and do steam inhalations prior to your meals. This helps to loosen up and bring out the secretions.

Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
