Recent Pneumonia/ now Collapse Lung

My sons best friend has been admitted for a 'spontaneous lung collapse'...  they have placed a tube into his side. They say, they can give no answer as to why this has happened. I'm not buying it. the fact this hospital does not a have a good rep; is worrisome.. Are they missing something? Shouldn't they be doing something else beside x 'rays to investigate a cause? He's still recovering from Pneumonia, just finished his antibiotics, but is still weak and has a cough still... i personally think the Pneumonia has something to do with this unexpected event. what do you think?

Thank you for your time and opinion... when the ER doc was told of the recent pneumonia, he dismissed it like it didn't matter in the least; that was my first 'strike' against this person. X'rays followed, and again not a word about the Pneumonia; if it was cleared up or not. He just said it was the 'Spontaneous Lung collapse'.. He was admitted and then the Chest tube soon after. The child suffered in pain the whole time and thru out the night. The next morning, a different doc (the specialist) came in to his room, asked more questions, he ordered more x'rays because the child was still hurting so bad, short breathed, looking pale, couldn't eat, kept throwing up everything (even water)... The tube was misplaced! They had to remove it, and make another incision. Strike 2. It's been 3 days, and he isn't feeling any better, nor looking better. I don't understand. Something is not right... I've pondered on this and convinced he needs moved to another hospital. Small town hospitals, for some reason just don't seem to have knowledge or sometimes the equipment they should to function completely or properly, like bigger hospitals. Am i wrong on that? I truly don't believe, the child is getting the best treatment or the correct answers for his situation. *He lives with his Grandparents, and they don't ask questions like i think they should. And it worries me....

Primary spontaneous pneumothorax (lung collapse) can occur without known lung disease.  The cause is unknown.  It happens a lot more in thin males than others.  Secondary pneumothorax occurs due to disease.  The most common is COPD, but pneumonia can also cause it.

So it is possible that the pneumonia led to the lung collapse, but it's not due to negligence unless they refused to treat him for the pneumonia when you brought him in.  I'm not sure why they are saying it's not due to the pneumonia, but what's important is treating him right now.  Having a chest tube in is very uncomfortable, unfortunately.
