Strange chest symptoms

About 6 months ago I noticed a distinct fizzing/leaking sensation in my upper chest, about 1-2" to the right of my sternum. It became more and more frequent and a bit disconcerting.  The best description I can give is it feels like a balloon underwater with a small leak.  The past month, after this sensation would begin I began to feel several sharp shooting pains originating from the same localized area.  This woke me most nights.
My doctor ordered an Echo and a CT scan and they thankfully were negative.
Over the past few days, I now feel these sensations and sharp pains on both sides of my sternum and even more into the upper chest/shoulder area.  I have no heartburn or pain in my esophagus.
Do you have any suggestions for me?  Any clue as to what could be causing this?  Would you recommend I see a pulmonologist or a GI dr?

Thank you very much for your time,
Julie

No official diagnosis.  I have googled endlessly and have found many others with similar symptoms.  (some have MVP, hormone problems, thyroid, anxiety, GERD)
It maybe my hiatal hernia, altho it hasn't bothered me in years nor do I have heartburn.  I do get some relief from propping my head up at night.
GL and let me know if you find anything. It is so frustrating to have Dr's look at you like you have 3 heads.

I was just wondering if you ever found out what is going on?  I have had similar issues also with no diagnosis.

Thanks
