I do get chest tightness. I really don't cough the phlegm up most of the time. It is just there. I find myself constantly clearing it out of my throat. I feel this is what worsens the breathing issues at time. I don't believe I have ever had a methacoline challenge test. I have had numerous PFTs and Spirometry test. I have also had many additonal tests. I do have GERD. I had a ph probe done after my nissen and it showed my reflux was a lot better. I seem to feel the same though. It is really frustrating. I do get a cough sometimes but it is usually a dry cough.
What do you mean you have a lot of phlegm? Are you coughing up a lot of phlegm? Then that is related to chronic bronchitis, especially that you have a long smoking history. Spasms in the throat? Maybe you have VCD (vocal chord dysfunction), look it up and see what you think of the symptoms. Mucous in the throat can be due to GERD or Post nasal drip. Even Gerd can give breathing issues. For some their only symptom is a dry cough. What other symptoms do you have outside of shortness of breath? Most people with lung issues often have a cough, chest tightness, and wheezing is certainly common. If you question your asthma diagnosis, then did you did a "methacholine" challenge test? If you tested positive for this one, you have definitely asthma..
