Trying to catch my breath

I have been finding it hard to get my breath now for a few years, I had exersion asthma when i was younger but then it went away. Recently my breathing has been getting worse and I really struggle at times to catch my breath. I lost faith in my doctors as they kept sending me away with antibiotics for a chest infection and finally they agreed to let me see a respiritory nurse. I had a chest x-ray which showed up a little bit of pleural thickening they said not to worry. I was sent to the hospital to do more tests and the consultant said that they just ignore the x-ray because i am only 21. I struggle to breathe when im resting and its very uncomfortable for me, I play football twice a week and when I play it doesnt seem to bother me. Has anyone had anything the same?

Anytime you have a doctor who ignores you or the results of a test because of your age is a sign you need a find another doctor who will pay attention to you.

Pleural thickening may be nothing to worry about or it could be a sign of a serious condition.

You should see a Pulmonologist and or a Cardiologist.

Tests that may need to be done include

Spirometer; to test lung function
EKG
Echocardiogram
stress test
sputum test to check for type of bacteria in your lungs if any
bronchoscopy
