risk factor

Is a reading of 77 for someone who is on 16 hours of oxygen a day
serious? The period of rest eg 8 hours with no oxygen results in severe
breathing difficulties with chest pain. What if any action should the
carer take?there is a distance of about 3 miles between the patient and
the carer. The patient lives alone and usually take the oxygen at night
she has been told to split into 4/6 hours sections
concerned carer

Thank you Sunny for your input, since placing this submission I have had a long chat with the COPD nurse, she actually spent ages listening to my concerns and was very kind/informative ,confirming to me she is also keeping an eye on the situation.

I think that your patient needs another evaluation by his doctor. It looks like his O2 requirements have changed some. Is there any way to get him to his doctor so that he can get a better look at him? His heart and lungs sound like they are stressed with the low O2 levels (chest pain and shortness of breath).
I hope that things work out....I think it is wonderful that this person has such a caring individual in his corner.
