shortness of breath/frequent yawning

I am a 41 year old female with a 2 year old, in good health other than being about 10 pounds overweight. Two months ago I began experiencing shortness of breath. I yawn constantly in an attempt to get air. The doctor thought asthma, especially given my family history of lung problems, so though my lungs sounded clear I tried advair/albuterol.  No change in condition.
I had a ct scan to check for a pulmonary embolism and everything looked good. I have been taking previcid for 2 weeks to treat possible acid reflux, but there has been no change in my condition. I feel better when I sleep and wake up feeling great, only to have the sob return within a few hours.
A possibly relevant fact: the day before this started I was at yoga doing a twist when I felt a very, very sharp pain in my right side under my rib, along with a feeling as if a rubber band had been snapped in the same place. The pain was excruciating and traveled through my breast and shoulder, but was gone in a few minutes and I was able to continue class. Also, I was in the desert for a few days and it went away but returned about a week later. I fairly certain it isn't stress/anxiety as the trip out of town was not relaxing. The breathing seems better when I stand/worsens sitting down, and I may have been standing more than usual on the trip. I am feeling so frustrated, scared, and depressed.

I know xctly how you feel i have had shortness of breath and yawning and gasping for air for the last 6 months and have had several test done but they did come back with slight concerns yet the doctors choose to overlook it and blame it on anxiety. I told them they are fools because anyone that cant breath properly will ofcourse be anxious but dont blame it on anxiety find the real cause

I cant understand why they only did ecg for your heart when you mention difficulty breathing along with chest pain todays medical care is frightening it seems no one cares about health and well being they just care about the money to be made. You can go for several lung function test to rule out lung disease the most inportant one is a spirometry test
PEAK FLOW –
SPIROMERTY –
BLOOD PRESSURE –
PULSE RATE –
PULSE OXIMETRY –
CHOLESTEROL – 4.01 –
SUGAR – 4.6 –
CHEST XRAY – X3 –
SPUTUM TEST –
COMPLETE BLOOD COUNT CBC –
NITRIC OXIDE TEST FOR ASTHMA
LUNG DIFFUSION CAPACITY
ECG- ELECTROCARDIOGRAM
LUNG VOLUME MEASUREMENT
CT CHEST SCAN
CHEST RADIOAGRAPHY

I have had this problem for so long and finally had some relief from my daughter who is a biologist. I too have had every test known to mankind, been hospitalized and the only findings was that my CO2 levels were off. My daughter explained the complex process of oxygen and co2 process our body goes through and I must admit it was all too technical for me. However, one thing caught my attention and it was what she said about how our blood circulated through our body and said mom it sounds like something circulatory is going on.  I actually recall one random doctor one time had referenced something about circulation issues. I called my friend who is experienced in natural alternatives and she said try cyan pepper pills and I kid you not I was 90% better in a few hours.  I strongly recommend you go to your doc to explore this as a possible cause and get on meds...I know I am now since I've seen such significant improvement with a simple supplement. I'm not telling you all to do what I did with the pepper pills but what I am saying is this might be a clue to what is happening to us all. I struggled for a week straight and I felt like I was losing my mind and within hours my suffering was pretty much over. Pepper pills are harsh and tough to take so I say go see your doctor like I am to see if there is meds to improve circulation. Maybe its a coincidence I don't know but I'm so happy I feel good.  Good luck my fellow sufferers. Lisa

Hi everyone! I have been having these breathing problems since April. Up until last night I didn't really have any yawning problems however. I've had yawning problems today also but so far this evening they aren't acting up like last night. The breathing problem is almost non stop though. Back in April I went to the doctor because of it and they checked my blood pressure, it was over 160. I weighed 237 then. The first thing he did when I told him about my breathing and pains in my chest was to give me an ekg. It came back normal. So like all of you he thinks it's anxiety/depression. So he gave me meds for that as well as prescribed two meds for the blood pressure. He put me on a low fat/cholesterol diet and I started doing 75 crunches every day and riding a bike at least 10 miles every day. A few nights later my breathing got so bad I ended up going to the ER over it. They took an x-ray or two and said they were looking to see if I had congested heart failure. The doctor there said everything came back normal. I've lost over 60 pounds since April. I'm down to about 175 now which is normal for a guy of my height and age. I still exercise every day, I still eat right and yet the breathing problem is still there constantly here lately. It seems like when I lay down it doesn't bother me as much or while I sleep. I wish the medicial society could figure out what this and how to handle it. It's a great relief to know that other people are experiencing the same thing and know what I am going through. I hope that doesn't sound morbid. Anyhow, I'm gald I found this topic
