symptoms for chest infections?? please respond

Hi there
A couple of weeks ago i had a really bad cold which i believe has left me with a chesty cough. I went to my gp and she listened to my chest and said i had a chest infection and gave me some antibiotics this was almost 3 weeks ago.
my question is how can a gp diagnose a chest infection and rule out anything more serious by simply just listening to my chest?
Also if it was a chest infection wouldn't it have cleared by now with the antibiotics? i still feel wheezy sometimes (i do have mild asthma too) and i still cough up thick clear mucus. Do these sound like symptoms of a chest infection or could it be something more serious? My gp seemed confident it was just a chest infection but i'm very afraid. Please respond

Yes your symptoms do sound like a chest infection.  We both had a bad cough, congestion, tightness in our chest, sore throat, and sinus blockage and drainage.  I'd go back to my doctor and let the doctor know you are still having problems.  We have found if you don't clear this up with antibiotics, it will get worse and you'll just get sick again.  Good luck.

Sounds like your chest infection has not cleared up completely.  Your doctor may have put you on the lowest dosage of antibiotic to see if it would clear up your infection.  You should go back to your doctor as you may need a stronger dosage of antibiotic.  Last year,  within a two month period, my husband and I both had a serious chest and sinus infection which required us to continue going back to the doctor to get stronger dosages of antibiotic.  We finally ended up taking the strongest dosage once a day which finally cleared up the infections.

Forgot to mention that i just recently quit smoking and fear that the symptoms i am having are something worse than a chest infection.
