18 months of pain and worry

Hi, in march 2011 I had unprotected sex with a work colleague. Around 6 weeks later I started to experience irritation of penis tip, this then went onto cause groin, perineum and testicle pain.  I also experience clear sticky discharge on occasions.  I visited GUM clinic in uk and all tests were negative (gon, chlam and NSU as I asked to be tested for that).  I visited urologist who tested prostate with massage and sample, no inflammation found.

My concern is trich, its not common in uk but i have read its difficult to detect in men and women dont have symptoms commonly. With this I took 7 days of metronidazole 400mg twice a day and no relief.

My question is can I rule trich out now? I read metronidazole is not always effective.

Thanks for this great service.

your discharge really doesn't sound like an issue at all. unless you develop pain again, I wouldn't worry about it any more.

Thank you Grace. As stuff drags on I am just grasping at straws and pretty much accept there is nothing I can do but live with the symptoms.  Urologist said it could last years.

Thanks for your help, you guys do a great job in helping others.

the medication you took is pretty effective for trich. you've also tested negative for trich too so no reason to still think  trich could be a cause.

Thanks vance. Forgot to mention I am 42. With all the negative tests and no sign of inflammation the urologist has said its chronic pelvic pain syndrome (CPPS). Its the discharge that was my concern, I could never present myself to the GUM with it present as its intermittent.

The reason I thought trich is because i was reading its linked.  Was just wondering in your experience the effectiveness of metronidazole?

Discharge coming and going, not sure what they is. Not a STD though as discharge is constant. Would think more prostate.

Hi Vance, thanks for your response. The pain comes and go's as does the discharge. That can disappear for months at a time. I paid privately for a laboratory PCR trich test (among others) via urine and it was negative. I have tried doxcycline and azithromycin but no let up at all. I had also taken 2G metronidazole about 2 months prior to the week long course.

The GUM said there is nothing else they could do.

Can only rule out trich with a test. It can be difficult to test in men. But are you still having all those symptoms?
