Accuracy of STD Test 28 Days After Potential Exposure

BackGround:

I had a set of STD test done 28 days after potential exposure (protected sex) with a femal of questionable/unkown STD status in Germany. I am male by the way. All results from blood tests came back negative for Herpes (type 1 and 2), Syphillis, HIV, Clamydia, and Gonorrhea. The Urine test does have one positve for higher than usual protein count though. Other than that, everything else is within norm. I was explained that may be due to excercise or diet.

I do feel a faint sense of pain in the genital area. I am not sure if it came from exessive soap wash of the area the night after the potential exposure. I did walsh with soap and hotwater for 30 min. with hotel soap, which is scented. I see small bumps on my tectle, they are skin color, most of them at the root of the hair. I am not sure if they were there before since I never looked so closely before.

I have not been circumcised. Right on the forehead of the penis behind the covering skin, there is a small area with skin coming off. It does not itch or anything. The color is redder than the surounding area.

Questions:
a) How accurate are the test results?
b) Is 28 days long enough passed after the potential exposure that the tests would be accurate?
c) Some website says, Syphillis can not be detected until 3 months later and HIV 6 months later. Should I rerun tests at that point?
c) Does getting anti-biotics pre-scription from the doctor suggest I have STD?

I am very concerned about passing anything to my wife and children. In fact, I have moved myself to a seperate area of the house to make sure my kids and my wife do not have any skin to skin contact to me. I saw somewhere online, there is a chance genital Herpes can be passed on to children from hand touch the children. I do wash my hands after every tolilette use. But, I am not sure how I can be 100% sure I washed off everything.

I went to see a Urologist doctor this week. He looked at my genital area and believes it is not Herpes or STD. I did not tell him the test results, because I want him to excercise independant judgement. I asked him for a swap test. He insists however that unless I have unusual discharge, swap test is not done. He ended up agreeing to prescribe a set of new Blood work Tests. I am wondering if I should take the test right away or wait for time to ensure the test results are reliable.

He did prescribe CIPROFLOXACIN 500 MG for 7 days twice daily. He said it is for the skin infection on my penis. I later found out this is anti-biotics. Is this typical or is he trying to treat STD on me and just being nice not to tell me?

I know these may be stupid questions. But, despite wealth of information out there online, I ended up finding more conflicting information and remain confused. On the postive note, this incident has completly changed my atttitude toward life, health and friendship inside of me. I am much more appreciative of the joy of simple and peaceful life. I promised to God and myself I will never do something this stupid again.

I look forward to the answers, thank you !!!!

3 Months for HIV is conclusive, you do not need to test at 6 months. 3 months is 100% so anything taken thereafter is still 100%. Herpes at 28 days is not accurate, herpes testing times are 3 to 4 months. Some people never get outbreaks so just because you haven't had an outbreak at day 28 doesn't mean you don't have it.  Testing time for syphillis is 6 weeks anything beyond that is rare.  chances are you don't have syphilis it is rare in developing countries. Chlamydia and gono testing times are 5 to 7 days, preferably 7 days. AT 7 days a negative result is almost 100 %.   GL from HA

a)
Herpes (type 1 and 2) = If you haven't had an outbreak by now, most likely you did not get Herpes. Herpes blood test especially IgM tests to give a lot of false positives. So having a negative test result is very good. It depends on the blood test you had. But since it doesn't seem like you have had an outbreak now after day 28, I doubt it.
Syphillis = If its negative, chances are you don't have it, though could do one in another 2 months.
HIV= 60-80% accurate results currently, will and should do another test in 2-3 months
Clamydia, Gono, Ureaplasma, Mycoplasma etc. = 100% Definitive.

b) Read above

c) Some website says, Syphillis can not be detected until 3 months later and HIV 6 months later. Should I rerun tests at that point?
Yes, Syphilis can take as long as 3 months to detect.
HIV test at 3 months would be nearly low-mid 90% accurate. HIV test at 6 months would be high 90% accurate. Not too much difference.

c) Does getting anti-biotics pre-scription from the doctor suggest I have STD?

Some doctors practice giving prescription drugs if they believe you have a STD and want to get it treated. This method prevents possible outbreaks or suffering on your part while you wait for your test results.

I believe the CIPROFLOXACIN that you were given was just to cure the most common, STD, UTI's. Usually doctors would prescribe drugs for the most common STIs and then if symptoms persist, they progress from there.

Hope this helps,
