Do I have Trichomona or am I crazy?

5 1/2 weeks ago I had unprotected sex with one of my friends after way to much drinking. This has devistaded me since I am very happily married and losing my wife would do me in (I already know I blew it). 10 days after the episode and researching STDs I had two nights of constant urination. The 3rd day I developed a pain on the underside of the head of my penis and around the edges of my head with frequent urination at times the pain felt more like chaffing then burning. The pain was always there not just when I urinated. I got a chlymedia and Gonnerhea urine test the next day. Both came back negative. I thought the pain would go away because I was just stressed. I kept on checking my penis for cases of injuries or symptoms of herpes. I thought for sure I got herpes. Finally 5 weeks after the initial sex (and with the pain coming and going). I went to the STD clinic and got a full test again. They don't test for Trich in males at this clinic, and he told me to have the woman I slept with get tested for Trich, because since i tested neg once got cly/gon it could be that. He gave me 1000 mg of Azithromycin for Chlymedia and 2000 mg of  Metronidazole for Trich. My friend is going to get tested for trich tommorow at Planned Parenthood. The doc at the clinic also said that if she doesn't have anything I don't have anything (and made sure I understood this by repeating it a few times, which I already knew), and mentioned that it could also be all in my head from stress and guilt.

My questions are:

1) How common in women is trich. I have read on websites saying anywhere from 5-10% of women to 30-50% of women (which I thought was high)

2) What are the odds of a male contracting trich from one act of unprotected sex.

3) How often do men show symptoms of trich.

4) Could all of these symptoms really just be in my head from stress?

Thank you for listening. Don't think bad of me, I already am pretty upset at myself about the whole thing.

Just curious if trich was your problem?  Was the girl tested?

I am worried about trich, because it was suggested by the std clinic. i already had a cly/gon urine test that was negative. i got a second set of tests 5 days ago, and since they don't test for trich there that is why it was suggested because of the first neg results. i am awaiting the results of my second test, which was for cly/gon and syphalis and hiv. doctor said i had no signs of herpes and shouldn't be concerned of that.

Trich occurs in both women and men, but symptoms are more common in women.  I'm not really sure how common trich is, but I think that your worries are mostly stemming from stress and guilt as opposed to concrete physical symptoms.  Frequent urination can be due to stress and the vague "pain" that you describe is really not consistent with any STD.  If your partner is negative for trich, accept the results and move on.  Even if you had trich, the Metronidazole will clear it up.  I'm really not sure why you are focused on trich - it's not an especially common STD that people worry about.  I would recommend not researching STDs online because it will drive you crazy and you might start to believe you have all of the symptoms you read.  If you are going to worry, get a full STD screen and then move on.
Good luck,
Em
