Red shiny sore on penis... Been there for about six months???

Hi,
I have had this sore on my penis for about six months now. It started off as a small hard crust on the top of my shaft. It was not painful and did not itch. It goes through processes where it looks like it is healing. The hard scab-like skin will flake off and then the sore turns shiny. It is not elevated but it is definitely not normal. I just got tested for syphillis and had two penicillin shots the test came back non-reac. The sore is still there. I was prescribed anti-viral medication by an urgent care doctor who assumed it was herpes. Is there any one out there that can tell me what this sounds like. Here is a picture of it.This really sucks. I read something about HPV and the symptoms. Does HPV cause shiny sometime scab like sores on the penis?Would anti-viral meds cure that or at least treat it?

6 months is too long for herpes, and it doesn't sound like HPV.  I agree that a derm would be a good idea.

Unfortunatly HPV does not respond to anti-vral meds. A dermatologist may be able to give you an idea what this may be. I sounds like a dermatitis rather than an STD. Take care.
