HIV convern

Hi,

I had protected sex with a prostitute in dom republic greater than one year ago. There was vaginal intercourse. I was intoxicated at the time, however, after I ejaculated, when i was removing my penis, the condom slipped off. I checked the condom to ensure that I had ejaculated in it, and sure enough there was semen in the condom.

My question is this... Since that event, I was feeling fine, with no symptoms. I had posted on a forum and I was ensured that I was not at risk. The encounter occured in June, and the next time i got sick was in December, during flu season. I realize that ARS (acute retroviral syndrome) does present like the flu. Multiple people around me were also infected with the flu. Since then I have been fine. I have been gaining weight, and bodybuilding. However, in the last month I got sick twice. Both times I recovered in approx 3-4 days. Today I feel a bit fatigued and my body hurts (poss from the gym), and I feel a bit feverish.

Should I be concerned about a risk of HIV? Everytime I get sick, I think about it. I know I should be tested, but the thought of going to the testing center makes me so weak that I feel like i am going to collapse.

ANY ADVICE PLEASE!!

No, like I said, symptoms are non-specific and cannot correlate with HIV. Whatever is making you sick, HIV could not possibly be the case. Even if I were to neglect this exposure, HIV would not be relevance. If you need assurance, like I said before, get tested to absolutely know for certainty that you do not have HIV.

Thank you for your re-assurance Aelly.

Just my last question. Because of my intoxication, the details of the night are very hazy. Im about 99.9% that what i stated above is true. However, in the event that something else occured (ie- the condom slipped off earlier), from your understanding, are my signs and symptoms consistent with HIV infection?

Meaning, if you were to neglect the exposure, and just base it off what I know 100% what happen afterwards, is it consistent with HIV? The fact that I recover from multiple illnesses within a couple of days, is that encouraging to a negative HIV finding?

The fact that it has been so long, and I for the most part (except the last 2 months), ive been relatively healthy, is that encouraging as well?

Thank you so much for everything

If you are getting sick, I strongly suggest that you make an immediate trip to the nearby clinic physician or make an appointment with your personal physician about it. I can definitely assure you that whatever is making you sick is not HIV at all. HIV would not consist of just one ailment but a combination of ailments. Symptoms are vague and non specific when talking about HIV or trying to self-diagnose. If you go to the HIV community, there are great people there who will further inform you about HIV and how it works. This is anxiety driven, my friend and I can understand why you are concerned about your health. But, overall, you do not have HIV.

Why do I keep on getting sick? I dont understand. This last month, I have gotten sick twice, and I feel another one coming on... Is this not assiocated with a depleted immune system?

You were not at risk since your exposure was protected. Your flu came on too, too late for it to be really associated with ARS. Just because you got sick, does not mean this could be HIV. You could have possibly contracted a run of the mill sickness everyone gets once and a while. There is no need to keep worrying about HIV because you are and never was at risk.
