Hello there,

I went to the doctors 5 days ago to look at my first outbreak of herpes. He said that seeing how I went to see him a week after I noticed something wrong, he couldnt treat me for it. he took a swab to determine if its hsv 1 or 2 but also said that the results probably wont show and i would need to come back in 4 weeks to get a blood test.

my symptoms:  i got the flu (i heard thats very common), swollen throat glands, what seemed to be a long strip of a canker sore on my vagina (left side) and one large bump on the left lip of my vagina. the bump has cleared but is now a little scab... the canker seems to be slowly fading away.

the doctor says i got it from my partner, but i've never noticed anything wrong with him before. i noticed a tiny little bump on his upper lip, but that could either be a cold sore or a pimple.. i never asked him. i also noticed a weird large scab on his upper right thigh about a month and a half ago.

my question is simple .... what are the chances this could be hsv 1? ive only ever had 2 sexual partners in my life, i would be devistated if i got hsv 2 so soon. please note, i am only 20 years old.

Your sores don't sound like herpes, really.

Other than that, I don't really know what to say.  You should post in the herpes forum for more info on this.

thank you for replying!

if you have hsv1 though, can you still have an outbreak like I'm having? I had a couple white bumps right inside the vagina, one large bump on my left vagina lip and a long canker sore on my left side as well.

i thought if u have genital hsv1, it would appear like a regular cold sore. i keep looking at pictures of hsv2 infections and the pictures keep showing me red bumps all around the vagina. mine is nothing like that.

help, please?

If the bump on your partner's lip was a cold sore, you could indeed have genital herpes type 1.  Cold sores are hsv1.

I think asking him to test would be a great idea.  That might help you sort through all this.  He should ask his doctor for a type specific IgG blood test.
