Carrier?

Hey there-
I was recently with a new partner.  Neither of us had any concerns for STD's and she was on birth control so no additional barrier protection was used.  It was admittedly "enthusiastic" sex.  A few days later she developed what look like ulcers.  They are excrutiatingly painful.  I am known to be HSV1 positive from a history of cold sores since childhood.  However, I do not currently have a cold sore lesion (I did give oral sex).   Additionally,  I have NEVER had anything even resembling a genital herpes outbreak.  I understand that HSV1 and 2 can both cause genital and oral herpes.  How likely is it that I am the source?  I feel terrible and a bit unclean over all of this and she is clearly pointing the finger at me.  I really feel like I need to know for my own sake and for the sake of future partners.  I do not want to pass this on if I am (albeit unknowingly) the "carrier".  I do intend to get retested for HSV2 and an RPR (NO symptoms of syphilis but for completeness).  Thanks for any and all advice!!  polskajay

It is very likely that you passed hsv-1 to your partner.  You need to visit the herpes forum.  I'm sorry to tell you that it is extremely possible to pass hsv without visible outbreaks.  Post in the herpes forum for more thorough explanation.
