Hep C is almost never transmitted sexually.
Have either of you tested for mono? Had any other testing - blood counts, etc?
Aj
Oh and the window period for hep b is 9 weeks. Have they done any liver testing?
Hep C can be transmitted sexually, though it is the minority route of infection. The ticketI got from the GUM clinic said 6m is the window for antibody testing
They did some kind of test for my liver and another test for my white blood count. they told me that all was fine. The ER sent me home. They did a test for mono and I haven't gotten results yet.
Hep C is transmitted sexually around 1% of the time. If no blood was involved, its not something to worry about.
I was talking about Hep B when I said 9 weeks. http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/diseases/hepatitis/b/faqb.htm
Hep C can take up to 6 months, though many will test positive before then.
AJ
IIRC the figure was nearr 15 per cent.
Frank -
I found the IIRC, but I didn't find anything on there that said 15%.
According to the CDC - http://www.cdc.gov/NCIDOD/Diseases/hepatitis/c/fact.htm
"HCV can be spread by sex, but this is rare. If you are having sex with more than one steady sex partner, use latex condoms* correctly and every time to prevent the spread of sexually transmitted diseases. You should also get vaccinated against hepatitis B."
None of the symptoms you all list are symptoms of HIV or Hep C in the early stages.
It might be a good idea to start working more with your providers to look into other causes.
Aj
Sorry -
Scurred - 3 months is a definitive result on the HIV test.
Aj
get tested for Lymphogranuloma venereum (LGV)
Actually, LGV might not be a bad idea. Its very rare, but you might test for that, especially if you are in a bigger city like NY, Chicago, LA, etc.
Aj
so i was negative for mono at 3 months. negative for hiv at 3 months. negative for all the heps at 5 weeks.
this is the worst thing ever. I still have tons of eye floaters. feeling of weakness and pain in my bones. Now I'm having chronic pain in my spleen and liver area. Pain in my lower abs/bladder. I think I'm going to die soon if I don't get some kind of diagnosis. The pains use to come and go and now they are permanent. I need over 10 hours of sleep so that I can feel normal for at least an hour. I think the pain is just going to get worse.
Every time I go to the hospital they give me a wbc test and a liver test and send me home.
Should I request any specific testing? These doctors don't suggest anything unless you demand it. I need a diagnosis.
You might want to follow up on the heps.
Hep B can take 9 weeks to show up, and hep C can take 6 months (though I don't know if you are at risk for that, as hcv is only in blood).
Have you asked to be referred to an internist or gastroenterologist?
Aj
nooo. The thing is that no doc wants to do anything if there is no sign of infection in my blood or urine. I just got home from the hospital again. I'm going to make an appointment to see an infectious disease specialist and tell them him/her everything. For now, I just have to be patient. The doc at the hospital told me that if I had any liver problems or hepatitis than the liver enzymes would have been elevated. He thinks that I'm under a lot of stress.
I still think that everything points to HIV. It's obvious to me but if the experts and doctors say that 3 months is really conclusive and that 6 weeks is 98% accurate then I don't know what my problem is.
I thought it might be gonorrhea but 3 tests came back negative.
I thought it was Hepatitis b but my liver seems to be fine in the blood tests.
I've had over 15 symptoms in the past 3 months. I had a high risk. Now I'm being told that I have to test for aids at 6 months and 12 months.
I guess I have to suffer the thought of it for a whole year.
I'm not even scared anymore. I just need a diagnosis of something.
I saw an internal medicine doctor and he want to do the same blood tests aas the hospital did. he perscribed tests for hep and hiv. Same thing as going to the std clinic or the er.
A gastroenterologist sounds like a good idea. I'm freaking out.
I don't know why you are focused on an std - your tests are negative.
Sorry about the hep tests - I forgot you had liver testing. Your doc is right - you would have had some elevated levels on that.
I can't imagine how frustrating it is, but you are doing well to just try and be patient. Good luck with a GI.
