Thanks Grace, I have loads of Valtrex and I will take it but not until the swab tests get back. I don't want to take anything if I don't have to., And the outbreaks have came to a stop, for awhile anyway. I have not had an outbreak since, well it's been awhile I can't remember, Christmas I think.IDK.
Just got back from my doctor. He is not sold on the idea it's shingles. Now I'm back to square one. He did some swabs so I will know something Tuesday. This is so crazy.
You can take valtrex while pregnant for shingles. It's safety during pregnancy has been pretty well established at this point plus we have 25+ years of acyclovir too to go on ( valtrex is an acyclovir prodrug ). The concern is if you don't treat this promptly you have a higher risk of having phn ( post herpetic neuralgia ) which would make you quite miserable for the rest of your pregnancy if not longer.

The ER doctor just looked at it and said it was shingles. He also had another doctor come in and she said the same thing. It's on my right arm and goes up my should to my back. It's kinda in a line. They said I could take Valtrex (my fav med) but since I'm now PREGNANT I have stopped taking all meds. There has been no studies with pregnant women so I don't want to take anything. It took us tooooo long to get pregnant for me to mess it up in anyway. Yes there is pain, it feels like it goes all the way down to the bone. And the itch is unreal.

I understand that some here might relate to how you feel, but this is not the appropriate forum for this.

Sorry to hear that you now have shingles :( How did they diagnose you with it? Where are your symptoms? Are they treating it? Are you having a lot of pain?

I know thanks...but some people here know my history and will know how I feel.
Aww I'm sorry. Its not all that uncommon to have outbreaks during pregnancy.
However, shingles isn't an STD. Its a reactivation of the chicken pox virus, which is a member of the herpes family.
