Is it HPV? Need help!

A few months ago my genitalia suddenly was swollen, itchy and red, but I had no idea what happened. After I went to the gyno in a foreign country (I'm currently living abroad), the doctor said the test she ran on me can only show the result of fungus culture, which I guess means yeast infection, but then she told me I had warts, , which can potentially be hpv. The warts are very small, almost invisible, and there're only very few of them scattered on my labia majora and labia minora. The thing is, I never had penetrative sex with a partner before. But I have been masturbating with a dildo since I was 12 so I have inserted objects in my vagina and anus numerous times but never with a man, neither have I had oral sex. So I don't think it's possible that I have hpv but the doctor was very certain I had it. Is it possible that I can get it if I kissed someone carrying this virus? Thanks.

From your description, I am skeptical you have genital warts. It sounds to me like normal appearance of your labia; small irregularities in the skin often are normal. I would suggest you get a second option, idally from an STD specialist -- which may be easy or harder to find, depending on where you are. A dermatologist also would be a good bet. (In much of the world, STD expertise and dermatology go together -- many such professionals call themselves dermatovenereologists. Ask around or check on line.)

Warts are not "potentially" HPV -- they ARE HPV.  Human papillomavirus (HPV) is the only thing that causes warts. Not all HPV causes warts, but all warts are due to HPV.

Your sexual history is also against HPV or warts. While rare cases may result from non-insertive sex (e.g. oral sex with another person), the vast majority of HPV infections are acquired by intercourse.

So check it out with another doc and feel free to return with a follow-up comment and let us know how it turns out.
