Male Yeast Infection

My girlfriend has HSV I&II and was recently diagnosed with a yeast infection which she has had to take a few different medicines; first antibitoics Diflucan and now a cream.

I had symptoms and went to get a full panel STD check which came back negative for everything, so I assume I had yeast infection too.

I do not have insurance at the moment and want to know what I can take to make sure symptoms which have subsided do not reoccur. Can I take Diflucan?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Did you get more help and find a solution to this?  (since Grace has not replied).  I'm super curious as to whether or not the cream was ineffective and that there is better cream to be used?

I hope it is ok to continue in this thread as it is the same topic just reoccurring symptoms.

I was diagnosed with a male yeast infection and completed about 2 weeks worth of Nystatin cream treatment applying 3 times a day as prescribed by Doctor. It has resurfaced again, after feeling it had subsided I began masturbating and did not have any symptoms afterward.

Then after being sick for about a week with congestion and flu like symptoms I pleasured myself again yesterday and afterward, the skin appeared reddish in some areas. Then this morning I woke up to find the foreskin of my penis was swollen. I'm very distraught and confused as to what to do. I had felt herpes was eliminated as a possibility since I had waited the requisite 3 months before getting tested; which came back negative. Can a yeast infection reoccur and is there any other treatment besides cream. I fear I may have had this yeast infection for a lengthy period of time before being diagnosed and think it may have become systemic.

I was hoping to get your input and I realize I will have to go back to the Doctor again which isn't the best scenario since I don't have insurance.

Sorry for the long winded posting. You have been a great resource for information and encouragement in the past and I will always appreciate that. Thank You.

no more testing for herpes at this point if it's been 3 months.

Grace,

It has actually been 3 months since our last physical activity; not 2 as I had stated yesterday. Sorry, new job has time schedule all out of wack..lol.. It was mid April, and I had my blood work for std panel taken on 7/20/2011, so that is a little over 3 months. Would you still suggest additional testing in a month or can I feel confident in recent results? Sorry, if questions seem redundant.

about 75% of folks will test accurately at the 2 month mark. Makes no difference if you experience obvious symptoms of infection or not.  we recommend waiting until the 3-4 month mark for testing so there's less chance of a false negative. since this is what I assume is a committed relationship, up to you if you feel the need to retest again in another month or two.

if your rash doesn't clear up with otc creams, see your provider for further work up.

Hi,

I appreciate your response. When you say if this is a recent HSVII infection, we haven't had sex in over 2 months. Do you think that would be sufficient time to show on STD test? If you have an outbreak wouldn't it be positive on IGG test for HSV, since you experiencing symptoms?

usually just otc jock itch cream is all it takes. apply it 2x/day for a full week after your rash has disappeared.  Yes you can also ask your doc for an oral diflucan too to try to clear it up.  also fyi - if this is a recently acquired hsv2 infection for you genitally, it won't show up on a std panel this quickly.

vagintis can trigger hsv2 to shed. avoid sex at this point until a few days after she's completed her yeast treatments.  is she on daily suppressive therapy to lower your risk?
