I separated from my wife in December of 2014 after I discovered she had been cheating on me. I am currently in the process of divorcing her. I live in a large city in China while she moved back to her parent's home town.
Four months after our separation, on, April 05, I had sex with a prostitute. I had never done this before and this is the only time I had sex in the last 11 months. About 5 days later I began to have pain in my testicles and lower abdomen, as well as burning during urination, itching in my groin, and urgency to urinate, however sometimes I feel I need to but can't.
12 days after infection (04/17) I completed blood tests and urethra swab samples in a STD hospital and three days later the doctor told me I was infected with Mycoplasma. He did not explain more, just gave me Doxycycline x 40 pills (one in the morning and one at night) I am unsure what the dosage was. My symptoms went away instantly but about two weeks later (05/06) the symptoms returned mildly.
I finished the Doxycycline and returned to the doctor on 05/21 and ran the exact same tests. This time, the tests were all negative. I told the doctor I still had the same symptoms so he prescribed Moxifloxacin 400mg x 12 days.
I have read a lot about this being the last line of defense and I became very worried as my symptoms only grew even worse as I took the moxifloxacin, including some aches from the medication. Extremely discouraged I returned to the doctor and did the tests again. Still no signs of an infection. He told me to visit a urologist.
At this point, I decided to go to an "International" clinic to get a doctor who could speak English. I am uninsured. I dropped my insurance to help pay for my legal expenses with the divorce. Yes, I know this is a huge mistake. The doctor I visited wanted to do an ultrasound on my testicles, and several other tests that would all be to expensive for me.
I realize I have put myself in an impossible situation. I'm also dealing with depression and have trouble sleeping at night. My only options now are, (A) to go to a Chinese urologist that I can afford much easier than a foreign doctor, or (B) to renew my insurance and go back to the international clinic. But I don't think it can be covered by insurance because it's a pre-existing condition.
I think the only test to see if this is indeed mycoplasma is a NAAT test which seems to be beyond my reach here in China and financially.
Any advice or council is so greatly appreciated.
Thank you!
