Possible STD

Ive had a burning sensation at the tip of my penis for the past several months. I had sex with a condom. The next morning I woke up with a burning sensation after I went to the bathroom(it actually hurts all the time and tends to hurt when I go to the bathroom). I went to the doctor and had a STD swab test, a physical exam, and two anti-biotics. One was Cipro for ten days, I forget the other but it was one time dose for one day. After ten days the burning was still present. I went back, and they didnt put me on a longer dose of anti-biotics. I don't show any puss, or physical symptoms, my only symptom is pain at the tip of my penis and while I urinate.

I finally went to a urologist, I had a renal scan because of prior kidney issues, which came back fine. I had a cystoscopy which showed an inflamed urethra, right where my pain is. But they don't know whats causing the inflamed urethra. They put me on a medication for prostatitis called Cardura, a very low dosage, its been about two weeks and although I can feel relaxed after taking it, I don't really feel much better.

Is it possible I have an infection my body is fighting from spreading but cant kill it. Should I get a blood test done to make sure? I mean im in pain mostly all day. If anything this is taking a toll on my mental health.

It would be alot more relieving to my mental health just to know what is wrong and find some relief strategies. So far, I haven't really found anyway of relieving the pain. I'm only 22 and to have chronic pain, especially in one of the most sensitive spots on the body is terrible. I mean we know its an inflamed urethra, the doctor said it was slight inflamed, I got feeling it goes between slightly inflamed to terribly inflamed. So as of right now we now the pain is caused by an inflamed urethra, but whats causing the inflammation is the real question.

I had protected sex, it was with a spermicidal condom so I don't know if that triggered it or what. The girl claims to be clean, but she might just not be feeling the symptoms. Its been a rough few months, and its very hard to get motivated knowing the pain will be there no matter what I do.

Chronic pain is really difficult to live with, and I can understand why it is taking a toll on you.  I'm in a similar boat as you - I have a condition called vestibulitis - it's an inflammation of the vestibule (opening of the vagina), but there is no infectious cause.  It might have been triggered by an infection, but the inflammation never goes away. I would continue seeing your doctor, and go for a second opinion if need be.  Make sure that you find out what STDs you have been tested for and that no other infectious agents are causing your discomfort.  It's really hard to deal with a condition when you have no idea what is causing it - just hang in there and hopefully it will get resolved sooner rather than later.
Good luck,
Em
