RPR and Biaxin

I was recently tested for syphilis, actually havnt gotten the results yet of the rpr.  I read some things that made me concerned about the validity of the results I might get.  I was taking Biaxin 500mg twice a day for a week and then took the rpr two days later.  could this affect the results in any way?

Hi nathan884,

It's difficult for us to provide answer for that, because we are not doctors. However, just to know when did you test for the RPR after your exposure?
And for what reasons you took the Biaxin antibiotic?
I agree with Vance2335, you should consult your doctor on this question. Your concern is reasonable. Biaxin is an antibiotic use to threat bacterial infections. And, yes syphilis is a bacterial infection. However, whether the medicine will affect Syphilis test result will depend on the medicine, when the medicine was taken.
You should check with your doctor or alternatively, you can post your question to the STDs Expert Forum, which runs by Dr. Handsfield and Dr. Hook. Provide full scenario, for example the exposure, when did you perform test after the exposure, and when did you take the Biaxin.
Thanks.
