RPR test

Hello,

I have recently done an RPR test for syphilis and I am waiting for the results now. That is due to a possible infection that occurred some 5 years ago. At that time I had no rash on the palms and soles. I had a rash on my arms and a very big pimple at the opening of my butt. I have recently been on doxycyline 100mg for 28 days for NGU.

My question is : Are the symptoms I describe related to syphilis?

If it were syphilis , would the RPR test detect it a such a late stage and will have the doxycycline cured it already?

Do I need to do another confirmatory test  for syphilis other than RPR?

Thanks

Ashwin

Yes, I think they are talking about prostatitis just in case.

Hi there -

The rash MIGHT be, but the pimple wouldn't be.  The RPR will detect syphilis forever, and if its positive, the lab should automatically run another test to confirm that result.

How many times a day are you taking the doxy, and why are you taking it for so long for NGU?  For NGU, you only need a 7 day course.  Are they thinking prostatitis?
