Male STI symptoms without sex?

My boyfriends seems to show symptoms of an STI. He has to go pee more often than normal (like every hour or so) and after going to see a doctor, was told there were bacteria found in his urine, though not enough to determine the exact cause apparently (small increase of white blood cells and proteins he was told). I should check myself too.

Can there be any other reasons than an STI? I am worried he cheated on me, but don't want to confront him if there could be another explanation.
