could this be herpes or what?

I had been with the same guy for 2 years but at the end of july we broke up and I had sexual intercourse with another person. The condom broke and the sex was unprotected for a short while. Around October 8th I had a crack on the inner folds of my skin above my clitoris appear. It did not hurt, only stung if I touched it a little bit. It lasted for a week and then went a away for a few days. It seems to be in this cycle of appearing for a week and disappearing within a day then reappearing almost the next day. It has been consistent for over a month now and appears in the same spot and in the same shape. As the crack heals the skin around it gets very dry and flaky. Also the surrounding skin around it is very red and all of the skin around my labia and inside my vagina are red. If i scrape the skin I get a cheesy like substance off of my skin. I have taken monistat and my doctor got a sample from the crack. She thinks that it's either eczema or herpes. I'm anticipating the results  but am very scared. I'm wondering if it could be herpes or something associated with a yeast or bacterial infection. I have not had sex with anyone since this encounter. help :(

Oh I know its so hard, but try hard to not scratch it.  That will only make it worse.

Honestly, either of those sounds possible.  Herpes sores wouldn't disappear that fast, and they don't typically recur that often, but the fact that it recurs lends itself to herpes.

If the culture comes back negative, as your doctor for a type specific IgG herpes blood test to confirm the negative culture.
