Reluctance to get treatment

Judging by the symptoms, I think I may have contracted a serious std - syphillis. I have a unique problem, though. As far as I understand, syphillis is a reportable disease, meaning that if any physician diagnoses it, he or she must notify the local health authorities. The problem is that I am personally acquainted with the director of our county health department and this gentleman is squarely in the center of my entire social circle. I am extremely reluctant to go to a doctor in my county lest I do get diagnosed with syphillis and it be reported to the county and this gentleman would find out about it. It could be that he would be completely professional and never say a word about it to anyone, but I'm really reluctant to take the risk that it would somehow get out and become public knowledge, or at least become known in my circle. What's worse is that I do not have insurance. Because of this, I don't believe that I could go to the next county to a free clinic, for example, because I am not a resident of that county. I'm in a conundrum and not quite sure what to do. Any advice on how I can seek treatment yet keep it from my local county health officials?

Go to a Dr, HIPPA laws are in place so even if this guy does find out about it he can not say anything. If he does then he loses his job and you can sue him. Don;t delay, get tested.
