we recommend protected sex and protected oral sex because it works!!!
in your age group, 1 out of every 3-4 people you have sex with has hsv2. 1 out of every 1.5 of them has hsv1. Herpes and hpv are the most common std's transmitted even with condom use but condoms reduce their risk too.
talk to partners about std's. both of you get tested to see who has what. we can't test for hpv but you can ask if they've had an abnormal pap test or an obvious genital wart within the last 2 years.
when both of you know who has what, you can make educated decisions about what precautions to take together to protect you both :) unfortunately once pregnancy is no longer an issue, many folks stop using condoms for sex. also an issue sometimes is the older a male gets, the harder it is to properly use a male condom. consider female condoms if that is an issue too since they don't rely on maintaining an erection to keep the condom on.

If your sex is protected your chances of contracting an STD are very slim. You can still contract herpes even though you use protection.Oral sex is a zero risk activity for HIV and HCV infection.Always be safe and stay STD free. All the best.
