STD test sensitivity question

Thank you in advance.

I'm male.

I read that the NAAT test for chlamydia/gonorrhea using urine specimen are very accurate and sensitive (99%).  I believe there is now PCR tests for trich using urine specimen that are also very sensitive and reliable for men.

I was under the impression that over the past 1.5 years that these were the tests being ordered by my primary care physician.  The latest lab test slip had written chlamydia, gonorrhea, trich and had urine culture checked off. I just learned today when speaking with a lab representative that all chlamydia/gonorrhea tests done at this hospital are culture tests.  I read that the culture tests are not as sensitive as the non-culture NAAT tests and that most places have switched to NAAT test.  Moreover, culture tests are harder to conduct sometimes causing lots of false negatives in inexperienced hands.

How sensitive is a culture test for chlamydia/gonorrhea using urine sample? 50%? 75%?  I could not find a good reference.

Was the lab representative possibly wrong, can they do a culture test for chlamydia/gonorrhea/trich using urine?

I'm very concerned that I've been getting false negatives and possibly infecting my partners!!!

Thanks!

sorry for the confusion - think Vance forgot his afternoon snack or something with your posts. Let's keep them all in this one from this point forward - thanks!

it's normal to be paranoid that your testing is inaccurate however really not a lot of good reason to be so when you aren't having symptoms and have had testing done.

use condoms every time you have sex to best protect yourself and save yourself a lot of money on testing and worrying!

sorry but there aren't quick and easy stats to grab for the sensitivity and specificity of culturing for either. feel free to pay to post to the std experts forum to see if they have the information at their finger tips if you feel it's worth it.  Much easier to just repeat your testing elsewhere if you need the peace of mind.

I only had one test since my last exposure and I've been tested for trich only once (most recent).

Could anyone answer the questions:

not likely you've had this many false negatives.
