Sore Throat/STD?

I had unprotected oral sex with a Transexual Sex worker, orginally from Thailand around Nov 22. a few days later I developed a moderately bad sore throat that has lasted a little over a week unti now Dec 3. I only have a small walk in health clinic in my town. The nurse practioner said it was unlikely I contracted an std and percribed Doxycycline 100M 2X for 21 days and Amoxicillin/Clavulanic Acid 875 MG 2x for 15 days

Does this sound right?

Gonorrhea is tested by urine or swab for genital infections.  Throat infections by throat culture.  A sample of fluid at the site of infection is needed for a conclusive result.

will a blood test for Gon. work or does it have to be a throat culture?

It is very rare to get an std orally.  If it were to happen, then it would most likely be gonorrhea.  Another concern would be herpes.  But if there were no visible blisters, the risk was even lower.

As for your sore throat problem...sore throats occur with many many different infections.  Most of them are not std related. The only way to tell is to go to a doctor and get a throat culture.  Make sure you mention the oral sex.

I was not really concern about HIV as I was really asking about other STD's which could be causing the sore throat, Gonnerhea. Syhillis, etc or anything else like that

It just seems odd that I got this sore throat right after the experience

If you still don't believe me, ask them in the HIV Community.  The link is above in blue letters.  That is where you should have asked your question anyway.

You cannot get HIV from oral sex-giving or receiving.

Yes, especially if you were the receiver and not the giver.
