Herpes testing question

I've read in this forum that after 7 weeks, a negative HSV IgG Ab Type 1 & 2 (type-specific test) is a good indicator of one's negative status for herpes.

Is that 7 weeks after exposure, or, 7 weeks after the onset of symptoms (i.e. genital ulcer)? I've had a viral culture test done on the second day the ulcer surfaced and it was negative as well. Tested for syphilis (RPR and Rapid) at 7 & 8 weeks, also negative.

Any one in the forum heard of seroconversion after the 7-week mark?

Thanks!

I thought I should be fine, until the ulcer surfaced and it sent me to panic mode!

Well, once again, thanks Didis. You're an angel!

It won't go through rubber, it's the possibility of viral shedding from the skin especially right before an outbreak. I think you're fine, you didn't write before that it was with a condom. You're fine.

Am grateful both of you took the time to comment.

It's quite likely I'll have genital herpes then... with the ulcer and all. Sigh.

I thought i was safe as well. I received oral sex with a condom on! And she didn't have any mouth sores. And i made sure she didn't reach the exposed areas beneath the condom.

There seems to be a lot of debate on the efficacy of condoms in preventing herpes, what's the conclusion there? Can it or can it not permeate through rubber?

Basically at 7 weeks, over 75% of people would be positive.  This I believe is based on post symptoms, not post exposure, but for most people the difference would only be 2-5 days.

But as DidisMirage said, I'd probably wait 2 months and test again.   That's far over 12 weeks, and you'll be very far on the side of accuracy at that point.

Your syphilis tests should be conclusive at 8 weeks, so you're good there.

12 weeks post exposure is the good indicator, that's when most people's IgG's will show up for HSV1 and 2.

Thought I'd clarify... the ulcer appeared on week 7. Should I have waited couple more weeks to test?

Would antibodies be produced only after an outbreak occurs?

Thanks once again! (sorry I'm rather nervous as you can prob sense...)
