Untreated STD?

Hello. I'm just wondering what would happen if an STD is left untreated? particularly herpes? And what tests should i take? And is it possible that herpes heals on its own over time?

Here's my story just to give you a background:
About 5 years ago, i had a regular "activity partner," we're just 18 at that time. We had intercourse like 5-7 times only. we soon parted ways because of some reasons. Most of the time, the intercourse were just 'quickies,' and without condoms and i didn't had the time to wash my genitals with water and soap. then, in the next morning my penis was really itchy and with blisters. but no other symptoms developed. i didn't had fever, no cold sores, no discharge. i suspected that it's maybe because i haven't washed my genitals after the intercourse. and when she gave me oral sex, her teeth kinda scratches my penis, so i thought that maybe the cause. After a week, my genitals are normal again.
Now, i've just read the symptoms of herpes. And wondering if what tests should i take to determine herpes?
I've had like 3 CBC's and urine tests in the last 3 years and they're all normal.
Hope to have your replies.
Thank you, guys.

You do not have to have active symptoms to get a herpes igg blood test done.

Thank you very much for replying back. I really appreciate it.=)
I'm gonna go and take a good look at the links you've provided.

I have one question though. It's been 5 years since i had that "infection" and it never re-occured since then. Can i get the STD tests today without the infection? or do i need to wait and see if the infection comes back, then have the STD tests done?

big thanks again..=)

You never, ever, ever have to treat herpes if you don't want to. Treating it just helps to shorten the length of ob's.  Yes herpes lesions will heal on their own in time. www.westoverheights.com has the herpes handbook or www.ashastd.org has terrific herpes info too for more reading on your own.

None of the tests you've had in the last 3 years are for std's. You've had unprotected sex so you need to get a full std screening and specifically ask about herpes too with it.  Since you also engaged in oral sex it very well could be hsv1 genitally too but the only way to confirm that if genital if your blood test only comes back as hsv1+ is if the symptoms reoccur and you can get a lesion culture and typing done.   So get the blood and urine testing for std's done now.  If your test comes back as hsv1+ you'll have to wait and if you get a return of genital symptoms - see your provider within 24-48 hours of their appearance for a lesion culture and typing to see if it's hsv1 genitally as the location of your hsv1 infection.
