Worried about continual penile irritation...please help.

Hi,

I have been experiencing symptoms of irritation on the head of my penis for nearly 8 weeks now.  To better describe the feeling, I would say that it feels like something has rubbed it raw...or short piercing aches.  These symptoms occured within a week of having unprotected sex.  At first, the symptoms seemed more itchy, but over time they have become more painful and nagging, especially when I drink alcohol or urine frequently.  About 2 weeks after noticing the irritation, I went to a doctor and was tested for Gonhorrea/Chlamydia, which came back negative. The doctor didn't recognize any visual irregularities...  I am in the process of switching a health care provider and will have to wait at least a week or two before I can get tested. I would also like to add that I have noticed my penis becoming red in spots of irritation (urethra and underneath the head).  I am a little worried that herpes could be causing this, but I have learned from the internet that even rare outbreaks only last up to 6 weeks.  Mine seems to be getting worse over time.  Some days are better than others but I have honestly felt like something unusual is going on... I had been masturbating on a regular basis of about 5-8 times a week (in which recently have dropped to maybe once a week).  Everywhere I look, I cannot find anything that sounds quite like my symptoms...I plan on getting tested for herpes, but would like to know if there is anything else that this could be?  If anything else, what would cause these symptoms after unprotected sexual contact other than herpes?  I understand herpes to come and go, but if I did have herpes and only mild symptoms...do they last this long?  Its starting to get to the point where I cant take it and would appreciate any advice, suggestions, or similar experiences.  Thank you all who care!

i have had the same problem for about three months now. Just before I wrote this, I looked online to see if other people have the same symptoms that I do, and it appears to be so. the only difference i have is that before and after ejaculation the penis hurts. Also, it feels like I'm itching on the inside after ejaculation. I am still a teen and hope that this wont continue, so thats why I'm looking to others for help. I looked online to see if it was gonorrhea, but it seems not to be so. And I certainty hope its not any other STD. if anyone can help me with this issue, please wright back to me.

Herpes wouldn't cause prolonged irritation - an outbreak would last a couple of weeks, give or take, and then be gone.

I don't know what she has that is preventing her from having kids, but its not herpes, or any other std, for that matter.

It sounds as if you need to take better care of yourself - not eating or drinking enough water can cause all kinds of problems.  You might also need a physical - if you are vitamin deficient, you can have problems from that, too.

The doctor had told me that he would test for the most common stds and did a swab of the inside of my penis.  A week later I got a letter from the doc stating that the tests for GC/ Chlamydia were normal.  I assumed that this means no GC/ Chlamydia...What I find odd about my symptoms are that one day they can really bother me (like when I posted my first comment last night).  This morning there is no pain but just a feeling of a suppressed irritation.  Its like I can feel that its there, but it doesn't always bug me. Are these different outbreaks but very frequent or is this just one major outbreak?  My appetite has been very poor this last year (at most 2 meals a day but most days 1 meal).  I usually dont eat until after 3:00pm and I know that I dont drink enough water. I consume alcohol 3-4 times a week.  I also experience some minor discharge but only after I urinate, which I suspect is common.  When I drink and have to use the restroom it is more of an inflammed tingly feeling.  However there is no burn from the urine coming out, just the same feeling as before I went.  It was late September when I had the unprotected sexual encounter.  We had sex 4 times that night and I used a condom half the time probably.  It was very rough sex ( rougher than past).  Since then, I had sex only one other time (protected).  I guess my main question is do even minor symptoms of herpes cause prolonged irritation?  I do not see the fluid filled blisters that some cases cause. I didnt know that girl very well (my mistake) but I do remember her telling me that she had a disease where she couldn't have kids...Do herpes cause this in females?  I will follow up with the doc on NGU because he never mentioned it...Once again, I cant thank you guys enough for responding...I do not even know you and for someone to take the time to reach out like this gives me faith in people again.

You said this:  "At first, the symptoms seemed more itchy, but over time they have become more painful and nagging, especially when I drink alcohol or urine frequently."

I'm hoping you meant when you urinate more frequently, and not when you drink urine frequently.

You might just have some irritation in your urethra, and that can be from not drinking enough water, or drinking too much alcohol or caffeine.

When you were tested for gonorrhea and chlamydia, do you know if you tested for NGU?  You should call and ask that doctor if they found any white blood cells in your urine.

to me it sounds like a bad episode of a yeast infection, typically thrush, my main thoughts would of been chlamidia but if you have been tested and that has come back negative that is obviously not the case, herpes could also be another outcome but like u say episodes dont tend to last as far as 6weeks but it can happen so i would get tested hope this helps
