question on Cold sores

Hello, so just Yesterday i woke up in the morning i could feel this bump on the corner of my lips while licking them.
Im not sure if its a cold sore, it doesn't sting or itch or tingle or ever has tingled.  It just really appeared out of the blue.
Ive been tested for HSV earlier this year and came up Negative for both types.
and i havent had a realation ship since last year.
any ideas on what it is???
oh by the way
this thing happened before and both times it happen was when i used this chap lip stuff called blistex
could that be why?

you very well might be having a reaction to the blistex or it could be that the dry lips you were having were a precursor to a cold sore starting.

the best thing to do is to see your provider for a lesion culture of your symptoms if you are concerned.

probably, i was kinda suspecting it when i applied it on again,
see i was using this cheap lip balm which worked great
then id thought id use blistex one more time and sure enough it did it again.

but what do you mean its best to see you provider for a lesion culture of symptoms.
does that mean see if it might have any side effects??

blood tests don't always detect hsv1 infection so getting a lesion culture of active cold sore symptoms within 48 hours of their appearance is the best way to know if this is hsv1 orally or not.

The menthol in blistex can be an issue for some folks. stick to a different liip product just in case. Plain ole vaseline is usually the cheapest and most effective product but obviously no one wants to walk around with gooped up lips during the day especially if you are male :)

so then whats a lesion culture?
is that like getting it checked out?
cause getting an appointment that soon is impossible now a days

well i took the  test about 5 months since my last kiss and i think that should be long enough for it to be detected right, and nothing was.
i know cold sores are  related to hsv but are they ALL are.

haha true, true, yeah im not into vaseline at all, smells bad and is annoying. i just stick with those manly pink twisty ones right haha.

oh yes the manly pink lip products....he he he

most clinics offer same day appointments.

a lesion culture is when they take a q tip and swab around the area you have symptoms on and send it to the lab to see if they can detect herpes virus. The pcr culture is the best one to use for herpes.

Even the very best blood tests we have, still miss 1 out of every 10 hsv1 infections so a negative hsv1 result isn't always the final answer unfortunately.

hmm well i hope a dermintolgist would be able to do the swab..
im lucky to have an appointment soon
would 72 between 86 hours be enough time to get the swab.

wish me luck
