Zithromax: 1g or 2g with a little milk or food?

I am told and have read that Zithromax can and often does make people sick to their stomach and throw up -- particularly in a 2g dose. Is there anything that can prevent this? What about a half cup of milk or a little food such as a  slice of bread?

the side effects occur because of the medication itself, I really don't think that it makes a difference in them if you take it with or without food. personally I've even taken it a few times without any troubles and then a few times I felt like crap when taking it . It's luck of the draw more than anything.

No. They do not post on free forums.  You have to pay in the expert forum for the doctors to advise you.

And I do have experience.  Personal experience. I knew the answer which Grace has given to you. I know when I took zithromax (twice), both times I got instruction that it is best to take on an empty stomach but it is ok to take with a bit of food or milk. It was also what my local pharmacist told me when I inquired just to be sure.  So, the best experienced advice you will get other than Grace or Dallasfan, or AuntiJessie on free forum is your pharmacist or prescribing provider. Vance is also a great source but i know for a fact that the previous three mentioned are experienced in working with std's.

The reason why I did not say it before is because it seemed like you may be looking for information to self-medicate and instead of accusing you of it, I directed you to your best sources of information.

Also from personal experience...I have had a bad reaction to self-medicating so I try not to give advice in cases where I suspect it except to speak to your pharmacist or doctor.

Thanks for the suggestion, but there is no information in the instruction sheet along the lines of having a bit of food or milk to settle the stomach when taking big 1g or 2g doses of Zithromax. I have asked a couple of pharmacists and they have different opinions. I am hoping that Dr. Handsfield or Dr. Hook have an opinion or that a MedHelp member has actual experience and could help me out.

you can take it with food, not a problem.

It should tell you in your instructions with your filled prescription how to take it. If you are not sure, talk to your pharmacist or the provider who issued it to you.
