It sounds like you have a regular virus, as your mates did, but HIV wouldn't be causing these symptoms this fast.
Also, even if she did have HIV, and you don't know that she did, your chances of getting it from her without a condom at all are about 1/1000 or 1/2000. With a condom, for even part of the time, will lower that risk a great deal.

thanks for the your help anyone else got any ideas whaat it might be?
if you're that afraid, they have (at least around here) HIV testing kits you can buy at a pharmacy behind the counter that you do yourself with instructions or on the internet. i wish you the best but i bet you do just have a viral infection anyway---swollen glands indicate a sickness and it wont go away right away. get tested for everything anyway, but there are tons of HIV clinics that do the test easily...even your own doctor...i can't believe they're making you wait 12 wks! but the symptoms you're talking about don't sound like HIV at all to me.
my whiteness in my tongue has got better but i still have swollen glands and it has been 2 weeks since they started to swell anyone know what this could be?
A virus, strep, etc - you need to follow up with your doctor since you aren't getting better.
This would NOT be caused by HIV though. Read through the HIV prevention forum if you have further questions.

just a quick update, i tested neg for chlamydia and gonnorea the sexual health advisor said that this is a good sign.
the only symptom that i have still is swollen tonsils. i have little whiteness at the back of my tongue aswell. my throat isn't sore just a little irritating at times. there is no puss or anything on my tonsils is this a good sign.?
iv been to the docotr and she said she expects them to go down in a couple of weeks. its been a week n they are showing np sign of going dowm especially my right one.
i am still worried that with my tonsils being swollen after 5 weeks that i have hiv
can you give me sum advice auntiejessi or anyone else?
can someone giv me me a quick response i just need my mind to be at rest and then i wont post again ,
cheers
I can't advise you on things that aren't stds. There is no std that would give you these symptoms. Perhaps you should post in the ear/nose/throat forum.

quick update on my symptoms,
my tonsils have been slightly swollen for 6 weeks now!!! they are not painful and have no puss or anything on them. i have been getting tingling all through my body its a kind of pins and needles feeling but i think these may be down to my anxiety.
my throat is still a little inflamed but is not sore it just a little dry a lot of the time. i don't think i have had a fever.
i have been to the doctor and she thinks its just a bug that may have caught when on holiday and can sometimes take a while to go away.
i tested neg for chlamydia and gonnorea i was told this is a good sign.
anyone think my swollen tonsils may be related to hiv or any other std's?
also i have feel as if i have been having tightness in my chest at times i felt it the most when i woke up this morning.
No, your symptoms are not related to an STD. Lets say you have HIV, you don't get symptoms after 1 week. If you got HIV symptoms after 1 week then they could test after 1 week and be 100% accurate.
You do not have an STD.
do u think the symptoms that i have listed then are hiv or unreltaed to hiv and sound like another illness??
They have no relation to an STD including HIV.
thanks vance for your help
i have been extremely worried about my symptoms bacuse all of this started about 10 -12 days after ,my exposure im only 17 and i just can't believe i made such a stupid mistake just shows what happens with heavy alcohol and around with mates.
hopefully my test comes back negative and i can get on with my life
Anxiety is playing a very large part in the way you are feeling, try to relax and stop thinking about HIV and STD's otherwise all this stressing will wear you down and make you unwell, the tightness in your chest is very typical of anxiety, you really need to calm down. You're on a Rollercoaster of emotions right now and you need to get off it only then will you start to feel better.
