Can you test positive for an STD and be a carrier?

Over a year ago I tested positive for chlymidia, I got rid of it straight away, now someone I had sex with tested positive for chlymidia but I got tested and I'm clean, he's now telling me that I must be a carrier,  when your a carrier something in your body doesn't let you have the STD you iust carry it (as I've been told) so I'm very confused as too wether you can have chlymidia and then be a carrier of chlymidia???
