mycoplasm/ureaplasm advice please

Hello I have just come back from a clinic where i was told I have Mycoplasm Hominis, urea plasm urealyticum and ureaplasma parvum. the Doctor at the clinic put me on 2 types of antibiotics for the next 2 weeks. Having read different threads I am wondering whether I am over reacting to this. the Doctor told me that by having 3 it was not normal and that I had an STD. the same test revealed no mycoplasma genitallium , chlamydia or gonorrhea.  Could it be that I have been over tested. the doctor did say to me that usually the clinics here do not test for these and that recently he was starting this test...

I am concerned since i am wondering whether I should tell my wife or not. If this is serious i must however if it is so common and not an std then should I?

Hi and sorry it took me a while to get to your post. Firstly, M. hominis, and Ureaplasma are not always an STD. You can get these organisms without it being from infidelity. I'm not saying do not tell your wife but rather you can tell her you had symptoms and were tested and were positive for these organisms. The problem is that she may develop symtoms and will need to be treated as well. If she ever wants to get pregnant and has these organisms she could have complications which can be serious. Even if she doesn't get pregnant some of the symptoms for women are upper urinary tract infections and rarely kidney infections and in some women fallopian tube infections and other areas such as endometrial infections. It may cause infertility for both sexes. Sometimes there are no symptoms but the organism is still there.  There may be different opinions on this because there aren't as many studies done on these organisms so the data is limited. If you did have sex outside of marriage you could have received these organisms by :STD" route. In any case you both and any partner you had sex with should be treated. It is not a reportable disease meaning you don't have to report it to the health department but if you care for your wife, I would at least explain that you have an infection and she needs treatment. You both should be tested after treatment as well. Wait a few weeks after treatment then get retested. I hope this helps.
