possible chlamydia infection

Dear Dr.,

I have had unprotected sex with a girlfriend and after three weeks i experienced a cloudy discharge from my penis and also a tingling sensation which I suspect as a chlamydial infection or NGU. I took 1g of zithromax and also took 5days of doxycycline 100mg. bid. After the medication my symptoms disappeared. After a few days however my testicles ached after i drank a large amount of liqour. I took another zithromax dosage and this time 1g on the first day and 500mg for another two days. I also took doxy 100mg. bid for two weeks but my testicles still hurt. Was the treatment enough or a failure?

Also my wife whom i had sex during the supposed incubation period also took 1g of zithromax and 5 days of 100mg. doxy bid. She however is complaining of a lower back pain which can be attributed to her scoliosis  but does not have any other possible symptoms of chlamydial infection. Was the regimen she took be enough to protect her from being infected with chlamydia or NGU?

Yes, all of those meds would more than have cured chlamydia.

If you have symptoms again, you should get tested and not self treat, since it appears it wouldn't be chlamydia.
