prostatitis forever?

Hi.  5 years ago i had sexual contact which involved me receiving oral sex (i am a male).  within 24 hours i had small amounts of clear discharge and urethral tingling.  later urinary urgency started and i was tested for chlamydia and gonnorhea then placed on a range of antibiotics on and off for 2 months.  by 2 months i finally got into a urologist, who noted that my flow was extremely slow, my emptying was very poor and i needed to do something.  he placed me on a range of antibiotics in combnation with xatral.  after months of this the symptoms abated.  then 2 years later i had a smilar sexual contact, after years of only sex with my wife, and it started again, the same way, only i was in a different city and my urologist, after negative urine screens for chlamydia and gonnorhea tried a brief course of antibiotics (ofloxacin) and said i just need to live with it as it is not worth trying to treat it.  i have terrible arthritis in my left knee now and in my fingers, and constant eye discharge and irritation which seems to fluctuate with my prostate symptoms. my prostate symtpoms remain a dull ache in that area, very slow flow and can't get enough flow to pee straight, having to get up at night to pee, horrible smelling ejaculate that occasionally is dark in colour and bloody, and an "extremely enlarged prostate" on ultrasound and urethral irritation quite often especially after ejaculation.

my question is basically is there no hope just because ofloxacin did nothing. do i really have to live with this or should i just get a different urologist?

Oh and you should post in the urology forum since your std tests were negative.

Oh get another urologist, by all means.  This isn't something you have to live with, though it can be difficult to treat.

I don't think your eye has anything to do with it, so you should get that checked out too.
