Hello, I have a quick question about the HPV/musculosum contagiosum confusion. about 3 and a half years ago I had my first sexual encounter. I later found out that this woman was still with her ex and that her ex supposedly had an HPV infection. She seemed very uninformed of her condition when i confronted her about it and do not trust that she truly knew what she had, especially considering where she went for her diagnoses was not exactly a well respected OB or urologist but rather a planned parenthood type campus clinic.
Since then I have abstained from sexual activity, got healthier than ever and regularly inspected my genitals for signs, (she apparently had the symptomatic strain, i however never saw this since i was never allowed to go down on her... now i realize this should have been a red light but love makes one stupid). After about 6 months i developed 3 small cluster of what I assumed were HPV warts. I was without insurance, and incredibly embarrassed so I made the mistake of performing self surgery using sterilized nail clippers (hurt like hell but i was very careful to disinfect the area, allow it to heal and remove the entirety of each bump). Since then I have had what appears to be scar tissue in the area, but for fear i once again used my clippers and removed the scar tissue, applying vit E A and D ointment to prevent further scarring.
Since then I have had no reoccurances, and upon research realized that the bumps looked very little like HPV warts but rather were round, pearly, and flesh coloured more resembling musculosum contagiosum. I applied the vinegar test both before and after the self surgery and never saw any skin turning white.
My question is this, given that i never got a diagnoses, is it possible to test for past infection of HPV and or musculosum contagiosum? I know that both can be cleared by the body, and likely mine has regardless of what it was, however from what I've read the risk of transmission post clearing is much higher with HPV than with musculosum contagiosum since the virus is contained within the growth itself in MC whereas the virus stays in the skin even after disappearance of symptoms in HPV.
I have recently reentered the dating scene and would love to be confident in knowing what I had, this would make it much easier in determining whether or not i should inform any future partners. I am aware that there is no test for HPV in men that is FDA approved, however have found little information on the testing for MC. Is it possible to get the previously infected area checked for signs that would lend toward MS or HPV?
Thank you for any replies, this is a very frustrating situation to be in.
