iud's are also effective. (i had the mirena prior to ortho tri) they're good for 5 years and they're simply inserted into the cervix. you can actually check for the strings yourself to make sure it's still there. i do know with mirena you have to have had at least one child. i'm not sure about paraguard though. the only reason i had my mirena removed (i had it for 15 months) was b/c i was in that rare 5% that have the side affects. if it wasn't for the weight gain (which can happen with any b/c my body just could not adjust to the dosage of hormones in the mirena) i would have kept it. my periods were 3 days long, no cramps, nothing. it was great. i just couldn't stand the weight gain. now with paraguard it's a hormone free iud and is also good for 5 years. they're moderately priced. (my mirena was $300 but i had insurance and it covered the full cost)

talk with your doctor. there are so many different b/c options that you can definitely find one that is right for you.

that's not true. i'm on ortho tri cyclen lo right now and ....not pregnant. if you have issues with remembering to take pills (which i do) set yourself a timer. (which is what i do) and use condoms b/c no form of b/c is 100%. i'm married and my dh and i use them even now while i'm taking b/c.

If I were you I would look at the Implanon and see if you can afford it. It's kind of expensive without good health insurance but its implanted in your arm, is the most effective kind out there, and lasts for 3 years. It might be a good contraceptive for you.

I tried getting the pill but someone told me it was risky...that it would make me too fertile and anytime i forget to take it that i would get pregnant. Is that true? I really dont want to have kids for a couple of years and im in a serious relationship.

you'll need it again.

instead of risking it by having unprotected sex or just using condoms get on some from of b/c. the pill, patch, shot....something. continual use of plan b will screw up your system and could possibly make you sterile. (it's rare but it can and has happened)
