Advice needed for "insomnia"

Hi all, I have had sleep problems for the last 6 years.  I started on zopiclone about 18 months ago which are great most of the time for getting me off to sleep, however I still wake up to 3 times during the night and wake in the morning feeling like i've had no sleep.  I take 3.75mg as my normal dose, sometimes I take 7.5 and sometimes when i'm hyper (i'm bipolar) i take the max dose of 10.75mg.

The thing is, as I'm still not getting a restful sleep very often, what do I do.  My doc has suggested taking an antihistamine on top of the zopiclone.

Any advice would be gratefully received.

Hi, I'm not sure whether or not sleep studies are done in this country through the NHS, but I will ask my gp next time I go.

Many thanks.

With bi-polar being a part of your medical history, that changes a bit what I was going to say, that anyone who wakes up a lot at night should have a sleep study in case there is a sleep disorder. Maybe your doctor can tell your waking is due to being hyper. My concern is that even those who may be hyper can also have other sleep disorders. Have you discussed with your doctor if a sleep study could be of benefit?
