Best mattress / pillow / bed type for sleeping in a particular position?

In general what particular configuration of bed (flat / inclined / adjustable), mattress (soft / medium / firm / memory) and pillow (low / medium / high density / memory/ v shaped) are best for sleeping in a particular position (Supine, L/R lateral decubitus / ventral)?
Is there particular configurations of bedding type that sleep experts suggest Pts should use if they want to adopt a particular sleep position?

Sorry, this might seem a silly question but as bedding in particular mattresses are really expensive (as are some pillows) and consumers are quite spoiled for choice, there is a lot of scope for making an expennsive and health affecting purchasing error.

As for my specific sleep related problem, I've absolutely no idea how I sleep (must borrow a CCD night vision video camera) nor indeed how I wake up. I am however at some point sleeping on my elbow and it is slowing healing of an ulnar nerve compression at cubital tunnel.

I don't think there is an easy solution to my other sleep problem, liking my bed too much in the morning. ;-D

There is no answer to your question. Everyone has different needs, different body shapes and sleep issues.

Thats like asking what car manufacture has the most comfortable seat.

What works for one may not for another.

As far as spendy mattresses, you can test out the sleep # at certain Hotels. Some people love memory foam, but there hot in the summer and hard to roll over on. Personally I think the best mattreses are the 100% foam types- some thick futons have these, but they are available for reg beds.

Apnea - side.
Reflux- side or back with bed slanted at angle on blocks.
Bad back- back.

Bad back with apnea, bummer, roll over a lot?

For your ulnar nerve, I had same problem. Get a elbow wrap so you dont bend it at night and sleep on the opposite side. Healed quicker.
