Why can't I sleep anymore?

History of insomnia is 13 years old, going from 8-10 hours in a 24 hours interval to 1-4 hours in a 24 hours interval. For the last 6 months I can't even get 1 hour/24hours interval.Brain just won't go into sleep state, even when it tries - as I'm about to drift into a sleep stage I'm violently knocked out into awake state.
Around a year ago had a polysomnography done showing 6% from TST NREM 3 (deep sleep), and REM was 6% as well, but doctors ignore it because I spend 6 hours in N2 (I was heavily sedated, how can they call that sleep?).Since then my condition got worse, sedatives have no effect on me anymore.
What could cause such severe inability of achieving sleep?

My meds didn't help either , but what helps is to not questions a lot of why can't I sleep or I can't , cause we can it's just been difficult for some reason. You are alone :( I want to sleep too all I do is try and pray and try and relax.

Best to work with your doc on this, as that person has examined you and knows your medical history.  But to answer your question, you might start with the mistaken belief that you"can't" sleep.  Of course you can, you know this.  You sleep at least some every night.  That negative thought is likely fueling and perpetuating the stress and anxiety and keeping you up.  Check out CBT sleep training methods for adults, they can help you overcome this kind of negative thinking.

Thanks for reply. In here we have family doctor, he is not knowledgeable about various health problems (especially sleep issues).
I can only go from a type of doctor to another, ex: endocrinologist to psychiatrist, and so on.
It is not the belief that I can't sleep anymore, but the fact I sleep insignificant amounts.
I don't suffer from anxiety, at least not in considerable amounts (everyone have daily stressors tho).
