I can't imagine just stopping an SSRI without weening off of it. I am NOT a fan of them (even tho I still take 75mg of Effexor XR but every time I even look at a dr they want to push it up up up). I was placed on Paxil when I was 9 (they gave it to kids then and it was pretty new as were SSRIs I think) and didn't manage to get myself weened off of it until I was 25 despite the fact it only worked, if it worked at all, for a few months. I remember the feeling of forgetting to take it (I took it at night) and it was like the flu or an inner ear (controls balance/dizziness) infection. When I was in rehab when I was 24 or 25 first in detox the dr didn't prescribe me paxil and switched me to something else and I cried for no reason that I was aware of for 7 days straight until I went from the "detox" to the "rehab" and got a new dr who put me back on it. However, the nurses were accidently giving me 160mg doses (maximum dose allowed = 80mg), which I didn't know until I got home and started taking my 80mg and feeling like I was in an airplane upsidedown with an ear infection and the flu/a hangover. That's when I decided to ween myself off and it took months and months of feeling like crap and was harder than Oxys to quit a million times over. Then w/in a couple months of being off Paxil some a-hole psychiatrist gave me Effexor XR ("it's an S 'N' RI, not a SSRI, it's totally different" and i believed him) and just kept coming back and saying "I don't feel anything" and he kept uppping it until 425mg. That's when he mentioned it was as hard to kick w/ same symptoms as Paxil. UGH SSRIs SNRIs DON'T WORK! It's a placebo effect and there has been study after study done that says EXERCISE helps you more than them. So anyone reading this: DON'T TRY THEM IN THE FIRST PLACE - they also deplete yr natural ability to make seritonin/dopamine like exstacy does. You'll b more depressed or you'll b hooked for life.
I am on effexor xr 150 mgs and i suggest weaning of it slowly stopping it right away for me was horrible and here i am right back on it again and have no been on it for several years.. the slushy feeling i tottaly understand i call it brain zaps .. the only way i can think off to explain it.. but i have never had the night paralysis.. but i do have the most incredible dreams while on effexor.. they are very very reall and i never ever forget any of them.
