Hi, welcome to the forum, sleep paralysis can be a manifestation of type of sleep disorder like parasomnias. Any other brain organic lesions needs to be ruled out with the help of MRI.
Few of the individuals are known to suffer from parasomnias esp. when they are on non-benzodiazepine sedatives, drug abuse etc. otherwise no definitive cause exists in few individuals apart from stress, positive past history of abuse etc.
The associated symptoms with the following disorder are confusional wakefulness, sleep paralysis, nightmares and night terrors. This can occur in any sleep stage (REM and non-REM stage).
To rule out parasomnias you need to undergo Polysomnyography and sleep analysis. You need to take out time for further evaluation. Sleep with light on. Short term benzodiazepine against prescription will help you. I suggest you to consult physician or sleep specialist. Take care and regards.
I had sleep paralysis several times, most recently I had one when got stuck in such a dream that I could really go crazy... The paralysis occurred at precisely the time when somebody started ticklishing me, and in life I can`t stand that. It was a really cruel torture, the trick my own brain done for me.. :/ Hope it will not happen again.
Hi, I've been suffering with the exact same symptoms on and off for 6 years now. i feel very scared and alone with them, again exactly like you. i hear this funny noise and I cant wake myself up, i tell myself to wake up, im kind of aware im in the state and feel so numb. sometimes people have been in the room while im in this state, i know they are there but cannot wake myself up. its very scary. i had a brain scan about a year ago but unfortunately no follow through from the unhelpful neurologist. if you do find anything more on this, please let me know what causes it and can it be long term damaging.
sorry this isnt a reason or helping you, but take thought your not alone
