Sleep study!

I just did a sleep study, and the doctor told me I awoke up 5-30 times an hour. 5x hour from snoring, and 5.3 times an hour from arousal. I dont get any REM sleep, I know i have PTSD, and this makes the arousal state happen from nightmares. What should be the next step?

Was it actually the snoring causing awakenings or was the snoring accompanied by compromises in breathing, such as apneas or hypopneas? That will make a difference where your doctor goes next. Get a copy of your sleep study so you can take your time and understand it and ask questions if you don't understand. Just reviewing it in the doctor's office doesn't give you time to absorb things and sort through it all. I have no idea how your sleep relates to your blood pressure problems, but I sure hope you find answers. May be two unrelated things.

Hi Cindysin, how are you doing? Thanks for your reply and sharing your concerns. How is your blood pressure now? Do you have any associated symptoms like vomiting/vision problems or any ear disturbance? Try not to stand up from seating position suddenly or sitting upright from sleeping position, which can again cause you these faints. Do drink lot of oral fluids and do a moderate exercise and regular walks, restrict your sodium intake. How is your sleep going on? Are you able to get some good sleep? When are you planning to consult your doctor or a sleep specialist who can review the sleep study report and evaluate you clinically? Take care and post your thoughts.

Hi,

Well it started I was fainting, and my blood pressure was high, very high. I did a tilt table test and it showed i have Neurally mediated hypotension is also called fainting reflex, or vasodepressor syncope or neurocardiogenic syncope or autonomic dysfunction or vaso-vagal reflex. I now tale altenolol 50mg daily. This has helped the fainting, but yesturday i had another one. It makes it so i cant get out of bed, and my school work is suffering. Its changed my life so badly. I wake up and feel like i havent even slept.

I dont drink alcohol, i dont smoke, i do eat candy, and about one pop a week only. I have changed my life alot, seems its not cuting it. I have wore a holiter moniter, showed nothing, i think soething else is wrong and no one knows.

Hi, how are you? Please give some more information regarding your problems that took you to the doctor? Since when do you have these problems and are you under any medications? I suppose you have got this sleep study done by your primary doctor of care? You can either go back to same prescribing doctor or consult a sleep specialist with the report for a complete evaluation and plan of care. Most important factor for sleep disturbance in general is stress, so try to overcome by relaxation techniques, regular exercises, good nutritious food and a healthy sleep habits. Avoid excessive caffeine, smoking and going to bed very late nights. It is better to consider any drug only after doctor advice. Please share your thoughts and take care.
