It may take a little while before you realize this, but what we came to believe was our best friend is actually our worst enemy. Just remember that when you a an urge. YOU ARE IN CONTROL : )
You might also want to download a meter from the whyquit.com website. It really is enlightening!

Thanks a lot for your kind words. I have tried quitting many times before but failed. Smoking used to get me through a lot of things. I really thought I could not last a day. But I did. This forum helped me keep my focus, because the craving is still around, and I dont know how long I can resist a habit I had for more than 26 years. At this point I am still too disgusted with smoking to light a cigarette, and quite determined to stay that way.
Big thanks also to Kathyjo for keeping the torch. To tooyoung1973 & opus 88 i wish you well. I hope I will not be alone in travelling this path, i even look forward to the both of you joining me sometime.
Congrats on taking the first step. I wish I had the courage you do to quit completely. I have cut down a lot but that is as far I can get get!
KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!
It doesn't really matter how many times you have tried in the past. You are well aware then of what you are up against and you know that you must be prepared mentally for the fight. Whyquit.com has some excellent reading material. What worked for me was to see myself in every one of those articles. Also, the support from this board as well as family & friends. TELL EVERYONE AGAIN! (and again if you need too).
I smoked for 40 yrs. so I know where you're coming from. I know all about that emotional addiction and I also know that if it wasn't for my friends and family keeping me honest, I may still be smoking. Bottom line, you have to want it!
You can do it!!
ME TOO.....AGAIN another try perhaps #99? stopped Sept 10th.
I started at 14 that would make it......yikes 46 yrs ago!!.............I find the mental cravings almost worse than the physical ones, and all the associations with having a cigarette such as talking on the phone, visiting, after meals....anytime boredom sets in is a real trigger too.
I do the nicorette gum, not many perhaps 4 a day...hopefully it will work this time.
Oh Kathyjo I tell NO one, I've tried so many times in the past its almost a joke with anyone who knows me....I'd rather do it than tell after some success.
You made a great decision!!! Kathy gave some great suggestions. I used to take my dog for a walk to help deal with cravings. I also called a friend. When I called he would just talk to me about his day or get me talking about something else. Eventually the cravings went away. Come back and let us know how you're doing!!!! Thanks and good luck!!!!
There is an excellent website, whyquit.com that can be very useful.
When you get a craving, get up and walk, go outside and take some deep breaths, do some jumping jacks or any exercise that will take your mind off things until it passes....and it will. A crave generally only lasts a moment or two.
Make sure that you tell as many people as possible about your quit. Those people will be the ones to hold you accountable. They will also help you through the first couple of days/weeks.
According to whyquit.com, it takes 72 hours of physical w/d so you are well on your way : )
Good luck and if you need support, we are here for you,
Kathyjo....when you break it down into days, cigs and $$$ it really comes into perspective doesn't it. I will check out that site.
